Striker, captain and all-time top scorer of the Uzbekistan national team; has played for Rostov, Genoa, Roma and Istanbul Başakşehir.

Biography

Eldor Shomurodov is an Uzbek footballer, a striker and the captain of the Uzbekistan national team. He was born on 29 June 1995 in the Jarkurgan district of the Surkhandarya region. He began playing at six and joined the Mash'al academy in Muborak at eleven.

He made his senior debut in 2014, aged 19, for Mash'al, who finished fifth in the Uzbek league. In early 2015 he joined Bunyodkor, where he stayed until June 2017: the club reached the Uzbek Cup final in 2015 and won league silver in 2016. In 2015 he was a nominee for Asia's best young player.

In July 2017 he moved to Russia's Rostov and made his Russian Premier League debut; he was the league's player of the month in August 2019 and scored 11 goals in 28 games in 2019–20. On 1 October 2020 he signed for Italy's Genoa, becoming the second Uzbek to play in Serie A after Ilyos Zeytullaev, and scored 8 goals in his first season.

In summer 2021 he joined Roma, with whom he won the 2021–22 UEFA Europa Conference League and reached the 2023 Europa League final. In 2023 he was loaned to Spezia and then to Cagliari. In 2025 he went on loan to Turkey's İstanbul Başakşehir, who bought him outright in 2026; he was the top scorer of the Turkish Süper Lig in 2025–26.

He debuted for Uzbekistan on 3 September 2015 against Yemen in 2018 World Cup qualifying, having played for the youth teams in 2014–2015, including at the 2015 U-20 World Cup. He scored against Japan at the 2019 Asian Cup. In 2023 a double against Turkmenistan made him the national team's all-time top scorer, passing Maksim Shatskikh's 34 goals. Squad lists for the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2026 World Cup name him captain, and in 2026 he won the FIFA Series with the team. Sources disagree on his exact caps and goals, so no figure is given.

He was named Uzbekistan's footballer of the year for 2019, 2021 and 2025, and ranked third in the Russian Premier League's top 33 players of 2019–20. On 6 June 2025 he received the title «O'zbekiston iftixori» (Pride of Uzbekistan).
