After graduating he worked at Tashkent Radio, in the republican press and at the satirical magazine “Mushtum”, and later headed the Literature Fund of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan.
He came to literature through poetry: his first poem appeared in 1956 in the newspaper “Qizil O’zbekiston”. In the mid-1960s he published stories about village life — “Qiz bolaning pandi”, “Ming bir qiliq”, “Charxpalak” and “Uyimizga mehmon keldi”.
His first story collection, “Qasam ichmagan yigit”, came out in 1970, followed by “Sadagang ketay”, “To’ylar muborak” and “Oy borib, omon keling”. In lyrical and humorous stories he wrote about the work, feelings and characters of his contemporaries.

His stories have been translated into Russian, Kazakh and Tajik, and he himself translated Mikhail Zoshchenko, Leonid Lench, Arkady Arkanov and Grigory Gorin into Uzbek.
