Set during the war years, the film follows a boy, Batyr, whose father, a well-known dutar player in the village, dies at the front; Batyr resolves to learn his father's instrument. Director Khalmamed Kakabaev wrote it with Sergei Bodrov Sr.; Sakhysalykh Bayramov plays the young bakhshi and Tamara Shakirova his mother. It was made at Turkmenfilm.
