It Happened in Kokand is a three-part feature film directed by Uchkun Nazarov at the Uzbekfilm studio in 1977, based loosely on Nikolai Nikitin's historical novel of the same name; the script differs considerably from the book. It is set in the Fergana Valley in 1918–1921, as Soviet power took hold: against the Kokand mutiny, the end of the Kokand Autonomy and the fight against the Basmachi, the characters' fates unfold. Yusup travels from slave boy to Red commander.
