The Aroma of Melon in Samarkand is a 2021 feature by Ali Khamraev, who also wrote the script. It follows ordinary residents of a Samarkand mahalla, above all the elderly teacher Askar-ota, who gives private lessons and cycles around the city. The story is set during COVID-19 restrictions, with melons and flatbread recurring as symbols of Samarkand. It won a special prize at the FELIX festival in Milan in autumn 2022; screenings in Uzbekistan took place in May 2023.
