Biography
Batir Zakirov was born in Tashkent on 28 July 1963. He graduated from the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute (now Tashkent State Technical University) as a construction engineer.
He began work in 1980 at the Tashkent instrument factory. From 1985 to 1990 he worked at the Toshsantexmontaj trust under the Ministry of Installation and Special Works, and in 1990 he moved to the 12th Trust of the Glavtashkentstroy association, rising there from foreman to chairman of the board.
Sources list him as a member of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan from 2008. In 2011 a presidential decree made him chairman of the State Committee for Architecture and Construction, and the same year he became a Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the complex covering municipal services, transport, capital construction and the construction industry. On 14 December 2016 he was released from the deputy prime minister’s post but remained chairman of the committee.
In 2018 the committee was turned into the Ministry of Construction and he became first deputy minister (from April). The Legislative Chamber approved his candidacy for Minister of Construction on 29 August 2019, and a presidential decree of 31 August confirmed him in the post. After the government was reorganised, he was appointed Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services on 30 December 2022.
On 17 July 2024 Zakirov was released from the post of minister; his first deputy, Sherzod Hidoyatov, was put in charge as acting minister.
