Ilkhom Makhkamov

Ilhom Mahkamov was born in Tashkent in 1979. He completed bachelor's and master's degrees at the Tashkent Automobile and Road Institute (engineering-economics and marketing) and studied the foundations of a market economy at the Academy of State and Social Construction under the President of Uzbekistan.

He began his career in the Tashkent city administration, worked at the state unitary enterprise Suvsoz from deputy chief technologist to manager, and then served as director general of the Uzkommunkhizmat agency and head of the Cabinet of Ministers' information-analytical department for housing and utilities, transport, capital construction and the construction industry.

In 2019 he became First Deputy Minister of Transport. In January 2020 he was released from that post and made acting first deputy; on 30 October 2020 a Cabinet of Ministers resolution made him acting Minister of Transport.

On 22 February 2021 the Legislative Chamber approved his candidacy and a presidential decree appointed him Minister of Transport. The next day he also took charge of the national airline Uzbekistan Airways. On 15 June 2023 he was elected head of the Uzbekistan Basketball Federation.
