Biography
Negmat Nizomovich Nizomov (Russian: Nigmat Nizamov) was born on 10 February 1940 in the village of Motrit in the Samarkand region. In 1959 he entered the faculty of physics and mathematics of the Uzbek State University named after A. Navoi (now Samarkand State University), then continued his studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University, graduating in 1966. From 1966 to 1969 he was a postgraduate student in the department of optics and spectroscopy there.
From 1969 he worked at Samarkand State University, first as an assistant in the department of optics and then as an associate professor. In 1985, at a specialised council of Kyiv State University, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the spectroscopic study of intermolecular interactions and photoconversions in solutions and films of organic dyes.
From 1986 until 2001 he headed the department of general physics, and in 1987 he was awarded the title of professor. Since 2015 he has been a professor of the department of optics and spectroscopy. The university names him as the founder of its scientific school of molecular luminescence; his field is the photophysical and photochemical properties of organic dyes in solutions, films and polymer matrices.
According to available sources, he trained 15 candidates of science, is the author of more than 250 scientific works and 8 inventions, and gave papers at international conferences in Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, the USA, France, Egypt and CIS countries. A technology for obtaining dyes for the light and food industries from local plants and cannery waste was shown at EXPO 2000 in Hanover; he also proposed a method for determining trace amounts of gossypol in cottonseed oil.
Nizomov holds the “Inventor” badge (1986), the badge “Excellence in Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan” (2010) and the commemorative badge “20 Years of Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan” (2011).
