Biography
Abduqahhor Rahimov, known as Qahhor Bakhshi, was born and raised in the Dehqonobod district of the Kashkadarya region. He learned the art of dastan performance from his father, Qodir Bakhshi Rahimov, who knew a great many dastans by heart.
From 1980 he worked at a general secondary school in the Dehqonobod district. For several decades he has performed dastans and termas to the dombira.
His repertoire includes “Alpomish”, “Yodgor”, “Go'ro'g'lining safari” from the Goroghli cycle, “Malla savdogar”, “Malika ayyor” and other dastans; he also sings termas of his own and assembled the dastan “Istiqlol” from his shorter pieces. Scholarly articles have examined the performance style and melody of his dastans.
In 1999 he took first place at the international festival of bakhshis and poets in Termez marking the 1,000th anniversary of “Alpomish”, and in 1997 he performed in the United States. He holds the title People's Bakhshi of Uzbekistan.
His “Alpomish” was published in Turkish in 2016, and “Temur va Boyazid” in Ankara in 2019 with dombira notation, analysis and video recordings. His son Ilhom Bakhshi is among his students.
