Biography

Tulkin Imamkhodjaev (Toʻlqin Imomxoʻjayev) was born in Tashkent in 1938. After finishing school he studied in the philology faculty of Tashkent State University from 1956 to 1961. He took to literature while still a schoolboy, learning the craft of verse in a literary circle led by the poet G'ayratiy.

He began his working life in publishing: from 1961 to 1970 he was an editor at the Ghafur Ghulam Publishing House of Literature and Art. Later he served as chief editor at the Tashkent television studio and as a department head at the Yangi Avlod publishing house.

His first book of poems, “Jilg'alar” (“Rivulets”), appeared in 1962. Over the following decades came “Yurak tinchimaydi”, “Sevgim”, “Buloq qo'shig'i”, “Sevgi ko'prigi”, “Umrdan hadya”, “O'sha muhabbat”, “Sochilgan sirlar” and other collections. He also published verse for children and teenagers, among them “Bola va burgut”, “Quduqdagi quticha”, “Salom, assalom”, “Sevara” and “G'unchalar”.

Besides poetry he wrote for the stage. His plays have been put on in Tashkent theatres: “Oltin kamar” at the Muqimiy theatre (1979), “Buvam uylanmoqchi” at the Satire Theatre (1993) and “Qaynar xumcha” at the Youth Theatre (1996).
