Zulfiya Muminova was born on 15 July 1959 in a mountain village in the Narpay district of the Samarkand region. By her own account, her grandfather, the bard Mumin oqin, would sing dastans for hours, and the oral tradition still sounds in her poems. In 1983 she graduated from the philology faculty of Tashkent State University.
She entered literature in the 1980s; among those who inspired her she names Abdulla Oripov, Erkin Vohidov, Omon Matjon and Halima Xudoyberdiyeva. From 1985 she worked at the magazine “Saodat” and on the radio. She is a journalist and a member of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan.
Her first poetry collection, “The Homeland Will Not Leave”, appeared in 1988. The book “Protect the Cradles, World” was published the same year, followed by “The Burning Woman” (1993), “My Dear, I Am Happy” (1997) and “To My Mighty Land” (1997). Readers received “The Burning Woman” especially warmly. Her poems return to human kindness, nature, generosity of spirit and a mother’s love.
