In the years before the Second World War, NKVD captain Frolov investigates a mysterious incident at a chemical plant, with circus performer Ervin Gross as the chief suspect. The case becomes harder when a circus clown is murdered, and young circus gymnasts help the captain. The three-part detective-adventure film was directed by Eduard Khachaturov at Uzbekfilm for the USSR State Television and Radio Committee, based on O. Sidelnikov's novella Three Brave Ones.
