Biography
Javlon Razzoqovich Hamroyev was born on 10 July 1934 in Namangan, the son of the well-known actor Razzoq Hamroyev.
As a young man he was far from the arts: he trained as an auditor at a trade technical school, then graduated from a militia school and worked as an investigator. Without telling his parents, he enrolled in the directing faculty of the Tashkent Theatre and Art Institute and in the film-actors' studio at Uzbekfilm.
He worked in cinema from the mid-1960s. One of his first parts was a driver in “Navstrechu sovesti” (1965). In Ravil Batyrov's “V 26-go ne strelyat” (1966) he played Anvar. In Albert Khachaturov's “Podvig Farkhada” (1967) he took the lead, Farhad Abbasov; in the finished film the actor Eduard Bredun dubbed his voice.
He played Usman Arslanov in “Pod palyashchim solntsem” (1970; the part was dubbed by Viktor Rozhdestvensky) and Matkaul, the servant of Sheikh Hazrat, in the series “Olovli yo'llar” (1978), in which his father Razzoq Hamroyev played the sheikh. In the Soviet–Indian film “Adventures of Ali-Baba and the Forty Thieves” (1979) he played Mukhammed, the knife thrower.
He kept acting through the 1980s and early 1990s: “Gosudarstvennaya granitsa. Krasnyy pesok” (1984), “Taynoe puteshestvie emira” (1986), “Shok” (1989), “Kodeks molchaniya” (1990), “Abdullajon” (1991) and others. The filmography on this page lists more than 60 films.
Hamroyev was an Honoured Artist and a People's Artist of the Uzbek SSR; sources give different years for the People's Artist title (1989 or 1975). He died on 18 October 1997, aged 63.
