The Earth Thirsts (also known as Two Undermines) is a 1930 drama directed by Yuli Raizman at Vostokkino. It is set in the early 1920s in a Turkmen village in the Karakum desert, where water is scarce and the peasants depend on the local bai, Aman-Durdy. Four Soviet hydrotechnical student interns arrive and propose an expedition to the Timur hills that block water from reaching the desert. The screenplay is by Sergei Ermolinsky; Yuldash Agzamov plays Kurban-Geldy.
