In 1943, far from the front, a geological expedition led by Professor Sagdulaev works in the Karakum desert. The German command drops saboteurs dressed as Soviet soldiers into the sands to seize explosives hidden in the ruins of an old fortress and blow up a strategic bridge over the Amu Darya. The geologists and local residents stand against them. The film was made at the Uzbekfilm studio by Yuldash Agzamov from a screenplay by Artur Makarov.
