Biography
Tohir Do'stxo'jayev was born in Tashkent on 16 January 1946 and died there on 26 May 2008, aged 63. According to xabar.uz, he finished Tashkent school no. 162 with a gold medal and won school olympiads in mathematics and physics.
He graduated with top marks from the engineering-physics faculty of the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute and was kept on there as a teacher. He then did a two-year internship and postgraduate study in Leningrad and on 17 May 1978 defended a candidate's dissertation on the properties of semiconductors; the findings were recognised as a discovery and patented. A candidate of physical and mathematical sciences and an associate professor, he headed the rationalisation and inventions department at the Nuclear Research Institute of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences, and later worked at the Polytechnic's military department, rising to lieutenant colonel.
As a schoolboy he read children's morning programmes on Uzbek radio. Later he hosted the radio magazine “Alanga” and live broadcasts of the “Yoshlik” radio station, and was also a presenter of the television programme “Yoshlik”. At the radio committee he took part in radio plays, worked as an assistant director and translated Russian works for radio drama, including Nodar Dumbadze's “Me, Iliko and Illarion”.
At the Uzbekfilm studio he took an active part in voicing feature films, cartoons and video films. His voice carried “O'tkan kunlar”, “Gang daryosining qizi”, “Tanka”, “Qo'lga tushmas qasoskorlar”, “Chukotka boshlig'i”, “Dushanbagacha omon bo'lsak”, “Men sizni sevardim”, “Mening do'stim Kolka”, “Styuart Littl” (Stuart Little) and “Uyda yolg'iz” (Home Alone, as Buzz, Kevin's older brother) to Uzbek audiences. The Telegram channel “Dublyaj san'ati” also lists him among the voices of Stuart Little.
Do'stxo'jayev kept a diary, written in Russian. Xabar.uz called him the “mysterious voice” of Uzbek dubbing.
