After graduating she worked mainly at the Uzbekfilm studio. In the 1980s and early 1990s she appeared in “Constellation of Love” (1985), “Train from the Station of Childhood” (1986), “Clinic” (1987), “Hamlet from Suzak, or Mamaya Kero” (1990) and “Kammi” (1991).

In 1994 she made her debut as director and screenwriter with the drama “Mladshaya” (“The Younger One”), shot at Uzbekfilm. In 1995 it won the first prize for direction at the women's film festival in Minsk and the “Griffin”, a professional prize of Uzbek filmmakers.

Since 1998 she has been artistic director of the Moscow film company SADR. In 1999 “White Dance” was released, directed by her brother Rauf Kubayev from her screenplay, with her as a producer and in one of the leading roles. As a director she made “Wonderful Valley” (2004, which she also wrote), “Private Detective” (2005), “UGRO. Simple Guys” (2007), “Figa.Ro” (2009, which she also produced), “Real Boars” (2009) and “I Will Never Forget You” (2013).
