Maftuningman (Charmed by You) is a 1958 musical made at the Uzbekfilm studio and regarded as the first Uzbek comedy. It is directed by Yuldash Agzamov from a script by Turob Tula and Mikhail Melkumov. The story follows filmmakers who travel through the Samarkand, Bukhara, Khorezm and Fergana regions looking for talented young people for a new musical; the cast was in fact picked in this way from across the republic. Its songs, among them Doppi tikdim, Gozal Toshkent and Sartarosh Ali, remain popular today.
